Frank joined Worlebury GC in 1975. It was quite an accolade and a measure of the impact Frank made in a very short time that someone of Wally Hartree’s standing within the club proposed him to be his Vice-Captain for 1979. Frank then became the youngest man ever to Captain Worlebury the following year.
Over the next 40 years Frank went on to become an active member of the various committees at the club, chairing all sections apart from M&H and the Ladies!
Frank’s business acumen has been put to good use by the club throughout the years. More recently he served for a number of years on the Board of Directors, during which he was Chairman for a period of time.
Frank was also the Club’s President in 2012 -2013 and has also been a valued member of the Finance Committee.
As an accomplished single figure golfer, Frank represented the club for many years and had a great deal of success on the golf course.
Frank has always been seen as a safe pair of hands, sound, measured and dependable in everything he has done for the club in all his years as a member.
Whilst Keri Allchurch was Club Chairman, he found Frank to be an excellent sounding board and they forged an excellent partnership, with Keri valuing Frank’s thoughts and advice during his time as Chairman. In more recent times, during his Presidency Dougie Woods, whilst looking for members to work with him on club matters, considered Frank to be top of his list and greatly valued the input Frank was able to provide.
Frank is about to embark on a new stage in his life and is in the process of moving to Hampshire. He will leave a big hole behind him but goes with our best wishes and we are grateful for his contribution to the club over many years.
We hope that despite the distance Frank will maintain contact with us and he will, for example, always be welcome at our Past Captain’s get together.
To be made an Honorary Life Member, a member has to have given outstanding service over a long period of time and when this proposal, to bestow this honour to Frank, was discussed at Council it was unanimously recommended and again unanimously ratified by the club members at the AGM.
During his acceptance speech, an emotional Frank thanked the members and the club for bestowing this honour upon him and paid tribute to the members for making Worlebury GC such a wonderful place to be, whether it’s to play golf or just to socialise.
